The ability to program is not the ability to create code. This is the most common mistake. Programming skill is the ability to look at an issue in such a way as to be able to automate it or break it down into automatable smaller pieces.

Technological changes.

It should be taken for granted that the current fourth industrial revolution, coupled with tightening regulations to reduce greenhouse gases, will result in between three and seven out of ten current employees losing their jobs in the next twenty years, according to various analyses. A large margin of error, on the other hand, means it is unclear how many new positions will be created in the new digital context.

In short, everyone here must approach the subject individually. In the grand scheme of things, reflect AND make a decision by looking at two factors: the situation of his role, industry, competence, experience AND money. Because in a completely different situation is a truck driver or cab driver before retirement and in a different situation is a driver or cab driver or courier with thirty years to retirement.

It is very difficult to compile in twenty minutes a list of suggestions or advice for everyone here. That’s why I strongly urge everyone here to follow the group on fb AND sign up for the newsletter. According to a survey in Poland, 8 out of 10 employees would like to change jobs after the last two years. However, only one in five does so actively, and literally a fraction is thinking about what the changes that are coming mean for them. So all of you are among the few who not only see that change is coming, but want to actively prepare for it already.

The question, however, is whether you chose IT as your new industry consciously or just because the media is earning a lot in this industry. Poland is, despite 20 years of catching up with the West, still a poor country so 30ts brut per month or even 15tys gross per month is impressive. Especially since supposedly in IT you don’t have to overwork yourself. I have bad news, both information is inaccurate. So much can earn so much only the so-called seniors, that is, employees with extensive and documented seniority. IT jobs, on the other hand, when it comes to the toxicity of the employment environment, are slowly starting to catch up with other industries.

The good news is that the IT industry is likely to be one of the few to have the longest defense against automation and artificial intelligence. That can’t be said of administrative workers, doctors, lawyers, customer service, drivers AND many others. The good news is that due to climate protection regulations more and more activities will be transferred to the virtual world, so the demand for It specialists will grow.

IT, or information technology, is a wide range of specializations and professions. They are not just programmers or network administrators. I emphasize the word, specializations. Not only are there hundreds of specializations, but in addition they are scattered across almost all industries. That’s why at the beginning I emphasized the fourth basic skill that is being forced by the fourth industrial revolution.

After all, we can imagine an agricultural worker who is a specialist in configuring AND setting up agricultural automation. All the time, due to the development of IT technology, new specializations keep appearing. For example, big data management, mobile application developer, cloud computing administrator, traffic manager, that is, a person who handles Internet traffic between customers and the core set of services.

That is, first of all, IT is a lot of different specializations, not just programming or network administration or being a webmaster. The fact is that once you start working as an IT specialist, the subsequent transition to another IT specialty is certainly easier than retraining from a barista to a programmer.

So the basic question should be – what specialty can I choose? I do not ask about the ultimate goal because it will probably be to earn as much as possible. However, in IT as in any profession the amount of earnings depends on experience.

It is assumed that to learn the basics of a field of knowledge you should spend no less than 200 hours and to become an expert nearly 10 thousand. Due to the Internet, this time is getting shorter, but experience will still count in addition to knowledge, skills. No employer today will pay 15tys to a programmer who instead of solving a problem will only be able to write a program. Coders are paid much less. 15tys is paid for proven experience.

So secondly. The salary will depend on documented or demonstrable experience.

What field of specialization in IT to choose.

The choice will depend on several factors:

Predispositions AND contraindications, e.g. visual defects not amenable to correction, increased motor excitability, balance and consciousness disorders, hand sweating and hand skin conditions or lack of binocular vision. It is a good idea to do research like the Gallup test or similar.
Opportunities for rapid learning.
Courses, studies, bootcamps, mentoring, postgraduate courses, training And so on
Summary

The good news is that you can get into IT „on the side” if you are active and actually earn a lot in IT. The bad news is that the reported salaries that are impressive are mostly for experienced professionals. Who is an experienced specialist is generally decided by the recruiter.
